Paintings by the important French painters Jacques Louis David (1748 &#8211; 1825) and Fran\u00e7ois Baron G\u00e9rard (1770 &#8211; 1837) identified the various stages of his glittering ascent to power and fame, but also the dark sides of his rule and defeats. Pictures and engravings depicted his fame as well as the heavy losses endured in his campaigns and battles.<\/p>\n<p>Precious equipment, clocks, porcelain and gold works from Napoleon\u2018s immediate environment afforded the viewer insight into the splendid style of the Napoleonic era.
