Back to Paradise

Masterpieces of Expressionism

BACK TO PARADISE GOES SWEDEN: We are pleased to announce the current venue of our successful exhibition Back to Paradise. Masterpieces of Expressionism in Millesgården, Lidingö from February 16, until June 9, 2019. The exhibition presents expressionist masterpieces from the Aargauer Kunsthaus, the Osthaus Museum Hagen as well as the Max Pechstein Museum in Zwickau, which are shown together for the first time. Whether August Macke, Ernst Ludwig Kirchner, Erich Heckel, Emil Nolde or Max Pechstein –  the search for new models of life as well as a longing for a forgotten paradise were the main driving force of the artists. More than 130 outstanding paintings and graphics from renowned pioneers of German Expressionism illustrate the development of powerful coloring and pictorial language of the young avant-garde as a counter model to the predominant understanding of art around 1900.

Exhibition opening: 20 February 2019, 11-17.00 in Millesgården, Lidingö

To mark the beginning of 2019, the Institute for Cultural Exchange, in collaboration with the Galerie Stihl and the Musée d’Ixelles will present the extensive lithographic work of Toulouse-Lautrec from 26 January to 22 April 2019. From the streets of Montmartre to the exhibition galleries of the City of Waiblingen: Toulouse-Lautrec, like no one else, was able to capture the attitude towards the Parisian nightlife  through reduced, but expressive forms as well as intense coloring. The relatively new medium of the poster turned gradually into a recognized art form, which radically changed the urban landscape during the Belle Époque. Accompanied by works of Lautrec’s processors and contemporaries, like Alfons Mucha, Théophile-Alexandre Steinlen or Félix Vallotton, the exhibition La Bohème. Toulouse-Lautrec and the Masters of Montmartre gives a wide-ranging insight into the fascinating world of poster art around 1900.

Exhibition opening: 25 January, 19:00 at Galerie Stihl Waiblingen
